Central Valley Bound
Artist Statement
Whitney Stolich

My series Central Valley Bound consists of 21 color images that are 48 inches x 48 inches.  These images were taken throughout the central valley and Monterey, CA depicting issues of immigration, labor, and social injustice.  While discussing these topics the work also shows large scale 30-foot painted figures of day laborers in the fields by artist John Cerney who marginalizes them.  This is not his intent.

Central Valley Bound purposefully points out the denigration of the migrant workers.  It flows as a series from one geographical location to another pointing out real phenomenon just as my series, “Third Space” did along the Mexico border. The community, artists, and government need to support these issues of immigration, labor, and social injustice as it continues to rise becoming an insurmountable global pandemic.  Central Valley Bound points out very real immigration issues while still exploring the urban landscape.
